The Norwegian Elkhound Association of America (NEAA)

The Norwegian Elkhound Association of America (NEAA) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to benefit the Norwegian Elkhound breed in the United States and Canada by aiding, informing and encouraging its members in the care, improvement and enjoyment of their dogs. It has been our policy to contribute to the study of diseases and hereditary defects in dogs – especially those of current concern in our breed and hopefully of benefit to other breeds. The NEAA is a proud member of the American Kennel Club.

Regional Clubs

The NEAA is a national organization, welcoming as members owners and breeders from the United States, Canada, and many foreign countries.

There are fourteen Norwegian Elkhound regional or specialty clubs, which are also members. These clubs hold educational sessions, sponsor matches and specialty shows, and are particularly concerned with Norwegian Elkhound welfare on an local basis.

Regional Clubs often have picnics or fun social events, offer Meet the Breeds, Barn Hunts, or respond to rescue situations.  They are a local resource for advice on Norwegian Elkhounds on grooming, training, and other questions.

NEAA History

The Norwegian Elkhound Association of America was admitted to the American Kennel Club in November of 1935, and each year thereafter a delegate has been elected to represent the Association at the AKC meetings. The Association was organized and continues to exist for the purpose of encouraging the responsible breeding of purebred Norwegian Elkhounds, developing and bringing to perfection their natural high qualities, and doing all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed in competitive events and as a companion dog.
